SDF almost finished

Posted by AcetheSuperVillain - May 16th, 2011

Greetings All,

http://www.newgrounds.com/dump/item/54 84c30e1fa2c8aa000b7588e07dbb81

SDF(Derp Test) is almost finished, just one more attack to draw for the sword wielding guy and then I just need to fully program him and the Martial Artist and maybe add the alternate color picker if I find the time. (check previous news entries for history)

I was hoping to have it finished Friday or Saturday, but I just learned that I'll be 1621 miles away from home at that time, so I'll either rush it or wait til the next weekend.

Hey.

"Ah, the good ol' Ziro report..."

Why, thank you! (:

As for turning around, I'm starting to get used to it. You just have to plan that ahead of time. Although I still get the attacks mixed up. I _know_ what I want my character to do under certain circumstances, but sometimes, I press the wrong keys, then end up getting whacked. (:

"I would love to add throws for all characters, but I'm not 100% sure of what really happens with the game objects during a beat 'em up throw. "

I'm not sure I understand what you mean.

Yeah, I also know it as Shoryuken, and Hurricane Kick is song long tatsumakisenpukiaku (don't quite me on that). NOw I feel like making all those SF2 sounds with my mouth, like I used to do back in da day.

"I can add the "You Dead" voice back if you miss it. Usually people just complain about it so I didn't bother."

They're just mad 'cause they keep dying. Bucha haters.
Speaking of haters, I thought the game was a bit underated, coming in at 2.94.

TWO POINT NINE _FOUR_!? ARE YOU FREAKIN' KIDDING ME!? UGH, HATERS MAN, I TELL YA. HATERS.

You should rant in the all caps thread on 8bitrocket about this, or I'll do it for you. (:

I'ma play this some more.

Ha, go ahead. I think they downrated it because I said you can you comment on my website and there's no sign up, but it can be very tricky to figure out. The link got something wild like 3000 views, but no feedback except for a dummy post I made to make sure it was still possible. So I think people might have thought I was lying and downvoted me for that. Besides that, NewGrounders don't like MochiAds in the first place, so they're already in a bad mood.

As for getting thrown, for example, when someone gets hit, I understand that they go into a "get hit" mode where they slide around based on the impact strength and count down until they can act normally again. But I'm not entirely sure what all goes into a "get thrown" mode, since there are things like sticking to the thrower's hand and changing direction depending on the stage of the throwing animation and such.

Hey.

I forgot to mention that I was wondering what the purple bar under the player's health bar was. I thought it was some special mana or something for the special attacks, but it looks like it increases a little every time you hit something, and when it's full, it restores a little health, then the bar resets?

Yes, that is left over from the last version of the beat 'em up engine (specifically http://www.newgrounds.com/dump/it em/bea084e6e7ae6099313e4f753d4d99 50 ) which had normal super attacks. It's the same system from Fortress of Fantasm, Slime Fighters and AxeQuest.

I didn't want to completely remove the system yet because there might be super moves in later installments, plus it was a way to get past some of the inherent repetitiveness.

What happens is it goes up one point every time you get hit or land a melee attack (but not a ranged attack) and when it gets to 30 or so, you heal 1/4 your HP and it resets. So ideally, if you're doing more attacking and less getting hit, you'll live even longer, but it can still back you up in a pinch.
